A Parent's
Responsibilities in Science Fair Competition
Be supportive and encouraging to your
student's efforts whenever possible. |
Recognize that Science Fair rules may have
changed from last year or several years ago. You and your student
need the current Fair rules. |
Help your student be aware of the deadlines
and timetables in completing a science project. |
Help with the transportation needs to the
library, research site, the Science Fair site, and other places. |
Ask questions. Can your student describe his
research project to you? Do they know the next deadline? |
Assist your student in seeking additional help
when needed. |
Help your student obtain the materials needed
for the project. |
Attend and support the Science Fair and awards
ceremony. |
Do not do the student's project
yourself. Your student will not learn anything and may be unable to
handle the judging process. |
Plan ahead to make hotel room, transportation,
and other arrangements for out-of-town competitions if necessary. |
Join with other science fair parents and plan
events to assist your students in preparing and attending the
science fair. Make the entire project fun. |
