Capital gifts generally used to
improve the physical plant and technological advances differ from
annual support, which provides support to the operating budget and
thus is expended each year. Instead, capital gifts and building
funds allow the Academy the opportunity to look to its long-term
future. In 2010 Colleton Preparatory Academy instituted its first
formal Capital Campaign to make needed improvements to the physical
plant. Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, and the Board
of Directors, the walkway between buildings was replaced as were
five classroom air conditioners. Thanks to other donors, the
playground fencing was replaced and a new landscaping plan was
initiated. Some ideas for future use of capital funds include:
matching a grant for water drainage and conservation through the
building of a pond environment for an outdoor environmental studies
laboratory; a keyless entry system; various needed repairs and
updates to older buildings; and twelve coordinated gardens designed
and maintained by each grade
